Designed to compliment the striking views down the Rideau Canal, the Riverview Refreshments and Picnic Area is a pleasant pause on any commute along the canal. With a flexible short-term kitchen space and kiosk window, local restaurants can set up seasonal pop-ups, allowing for a constant rotation of chefs and types of food available. This program would bring people to the site as well as attract those already commuting up and down the canal, allowing for constant circulation in and around the building and locks. The upper observation deck provides shelter from sun and weather, while also framing the beautiful views of the canal. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the space can be used year-round, as a great place to lace up skates or warm up in the winter, as well as a place to escape the heat in the summer.
