This proposal for Montevideo’s Plaza Canada takes the angles of sunrise, noon, and sunset on Canada’s Independence Day (July 1st), and by aligning these parallels, creates the two intersecting forms that make up the public space. This major conjunction and resulting fissure define the overall spatial experience while revealing a tide pool cavern below to be explored. This conjunction of the two forms, incorporating angles informed by dates and times of both Canadian and Uruguayan significance, represents the coming together of these two unique countries and their shared values.
