This project takes inspiration from an anthropomorphic drawing tool I created, which makes arcs of different sizes. This influenced the choice of forms used in this canopy ceiling. Instead of using the tool’s output to determine the design, I chose to contrast the smooth arc shapes with very angular and geometric forms to create the basis for this structure. This ceiling is a canopy for an outdoor workspace, that provides shade and shelter. When the sun shines through the arc shaped cutouts, the arrangement of the shapes creates patterns that resemble planetary orbits, linking back to an earlier project about an astronomer.
